Exercise Classes

Stay engaged, stay connected, stay healthy, with volunteer-led exercise classes for older adults in Central Vermont.

Exercise and Wellness Classes

CVCOA's evidence-based wellness programs, led by certified volunteer class leaders, can help you stay active, engaged, and connected in your community. Participating in an exercise class can have a tremendous impact on your health and well-being, helping you improve balance, mobility, strength, and flexibility, and aiding in relaxation. Being active at any time in adulthood can have a postive impact and is also linked to higher cognition in later life.

Classes are offered both online and in-person throughout the region and can change from season to season based on volunteer and space availability. These classes are free for people age 60+.

Evidence-based exercise classes include:

  • Falls Prevention Tai Chi is a Sun Style form of Tai Chi.  It is a variety of movements and forms that specifically work on fall prevention strategies like weight transference, mindfulness, and balance.
  • Yang 24 is the most popular form of Tai Chi worldwide.  It features slow, continuous and circular movements that have a lovely flowing quality.  It challenges balance more than Falls Prevention Tai Chi but has similar health benefits.
  • Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program is a low joint impact physical strength training activity program proven to reduce pain and decrease stiffness. The sessions include gentle range-of-motion exercises that are suitable for every fitness level and ability. These enjoyable and motivational classes may be taken either standing or sitting in a chair.
  • Walk with Ease is a 6-week program that helps you make walking a more regular part of your lifestyle and is fun and social to boot. Walk with Ease groups meet together for some gentle stretching and walking. This program is great for absolute beginners as well as people who’ve been active for years.

Please note hybrid offerings are classes that meet in-person and on Zoom.

Additional exercise classes are offered around the region, including Bone Builders, Lift for Life, and Strong Living.
