Our Mission
As the leading expert and advocate in healthy aging for Central Vermonters, our mission is to support Central Vermonters to age with dignity and choice. At CVCOA, we respect the wishes of aging persons to age at home, remain healthy, and stay active and connected to the communities they know and love. We offer programs and services for people age 60+, caregivers, and their families. We're grateful to all sponsors and donors who support this mission.
Our Tasty Bites video and recipe series teaches you how to make inexpensive, nutritious recipes that feed one or two people in just a few minutes!
This year’s Hit the Trail promises to be an unforgettable day with an essential mission! Celebrate and recreate on the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail by lacing up your running or walking shoes or climbing onto your bicycle.

Memorable Times Cafe - TimeSlips™ Creative Storytelling Workshop
TimeSlips is an evidence-based program founded on the idea that creative expression, growth, and meaning are available to us at every stage of life.
TimeSlips works toward developing tools to support people living with dementia and their caregivers - and the tools can be used at any age! Multi-age groups can be brought together through the joy of making up a story - bridging across ages, bringing family members together, and providing social roles in a group setting.
Join Alana, certified TimeSlips facilitator, for a fun, playful, expressive arts workshop on October 19. You will leave with a few new tools in your pocket for igniting a little meaning and joy the next time you meet up with a neighbor, family member, or friend!
For any questions about this workshop, please feel free to contact Alana at [email protected].
For more information on TimeSlips, please visit www.timeslips.org.
Memorable Times Café is a relaxed social time for people living with mild to moderate memory loss and their care partners. Sponsored by Central Vermont Council on Aging in partnership with ABLE Libraries of the state of Vermont.
Memorable Times Café meets quarterly at the Vermont History Center, 60 Washington St., Barre City on the third Wednesday of the month, 1:30 pm-3 pm.
Please contact Barb Asen, Director of Family Caregiver Support, at 802-476-2681 or [email protected] for more information.

Celebrating 25 Years of Service to CVCOA!
This month, we say farewell to Christine Melicharek, who’s served CVCOA as a Case Manager in Lamoille county for a quarter century! I recently had a chance to chat with Christine about what she valued most in her career with CVCOA.
I feel stronger and healthier. My balance is better. And my mental health has held up this winter. Some weeks this class is my major social interaction and I would miss it terribly if it was not available!
Taking care of Colman is a 24/7 challenge for me (spouse). Meals on Wheels ensures he receives one good solid meal per day. It is helpful as he has a very good appetite. It is wonderful to receive one healthy meal per day that doesn't require preparation.
A really lovely person delivered the kit to me – right to my front door even! It is incredible that you do this for those of us who can’t go out much. The Drawing kit has been so much fun and has kept my mind active. I was able to try mediums I otherwise would not have ever tried. The fact that I could do these activities at home was so helpful for me as I can’t come and go as easily as I once could.
After my wife received a diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s it became clear that we needed to find outlets for socialization and mental stimulation. I was fortunate to be introduced to the Central Vermont Council on Aging where my wife has been able to participate in their quarterly in-person Memorable Times Cafe and weekly Jukebox zoom calls. My wife always comes back excited and rejuvenated from the discussions and activities these events provide and helps me in providing care for what would otherwise be a challenging situation. I am grateful for the support CVCOA provides.
Every time when I talk about a problem I’m having, it’s just like boom, my agent is right there. He’s got the knowledge of what can be done and he knows how to help me with just about anything I present. He takes action right away. I think it’s such a beneficial thing for people, this whole program. I seriously do.
