Creative Aging Celebration

This free community event, held at the Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA) during Montpelier's Art Walk, will feature an exhibit of creative work by participants from the CVCOA Creative Care Kit project, artwork by older artists in the community, a demonstration of the Ageless Grace program, live poetry reading and music, and fun creative aging activities.

Stop by anytime between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to help us celebrate these amazing artists and try out some creative activities on your own. Artwork will include watercolor, drawing, cartooning, and poetry by Creative Care Kit participants, a special display of work that addresses aging issues, a photography exhibit from Lamoille Neighbors, the premiere of a new musical work, and more.

Attendees can participate in a music, movement, and imagination program called Ageless Grace at 5:00 p.m. with Barb Asen, CVCOA’s Director of Family Caregiver Support. There will also be live music and poetry reading at 6:00 p.m. during the event, featuring an original composition called "Sweet Fruits Suite" by Liz Benjamin and performed by Cecile Sherburn, soprano, and Eliza Thomas, piano. This music will be followed by Toussaint St. Negritude reading original poetry and poems by our Creative Care Kit participants.

Food and drink will be available for sale during the event through Cafe Anna. Masks will be encouraged for all attendees and required for those who are not fully vaccinated, including a first booster shot. We ask that people consume food and beverages outside if possible. No tickets are required to attend.

Following this kick-off event, CVCOA will be hosting Creative Aging Celebrations throughout June at our local partner nutrition programs during their regularly scheduled congregate meals.
