The CVCOA Wellness program focuses on the physical, mental and emotional well-being of seniors. We partner with local senior centers and hospitals, Neighbor to Neighbor AmeriCorps and RSVP, and other organizations. Some of the programs we are involved with are:
Healthier Living Workshops add vitality to the lives of those with chronic diseases, such as arthritis, asthma, heart disease and other chronic illnesses. The six-week free classes provide tools for better dealing with frustration, fatigue and pain. They also help improve strength, flexibility and endurance. Participants learn to manage medications, eat healthier, and to improve communications with family, friends and health care providers. Past participants report increased energy, reduced stress, more self-confidence and fewer doctors’ visits as a result.
Bone Builders is a free program using light free weights and body weight to strengthen bones, improve balance and feel better. Balance exercises to enhance agility and decrease the likelihood of falls as well as flexibility exercises to enhance join mobility and reduce the risk of injury are incorporated. To learn more about starting a class in your town, transportation to a class, or to register for training, contact Dan Noyes, RSVP Lamoille Coordinator, at 802-888-2190 or dnoyes@volunteervt.com.
Qigong is an ancient Chinese moving meditation for health and longevity that combines breath, visualization and sound to calm the mind, relax the body, enhance blood circulation and vitalize energy flow.
Earth Walk for Seniors is a quarterly program that enlivens and invigorates the lives of seniors on a path toward health and wellness and community connectivity by offering seasonal nature-walks, crafts, stories and songs in the company of EarthWalk children, staff, Elders and affiliated adult community volunteers.
Golden Ball Tai Chi is the gentle way to health and well-being. It strengths the body, relaxes the mind and lifts the spirit. Golden Ball Tai Chi helps improve balance and prevent falls, calms the nerves and increases stamina. Attendees will get a reference sheet, a DVD and a booklet showing the Tai Chi movements to support their practice.
