Take Action: Support Bill H109 and Nutrition for Older Vermonters

Support Bill H.109 and Nutrition for Older Vermonters

Central Vermont Council on Aging (CVCOA) seeks your help to advocate for additional funding for the Older Vermonters Nutrition Program. This program is essential for the health and well-being of older adults in our communities.

The combination of increased demand as a result of an aging population combined with the rapidly increasing costs for food and production has created a serious concern. CVCOA supports 13 meal programs throughout the region. All of these programs are struggling to meet the demand for nutritious meals. The combined state and federal funding for the Older Vermonters Nutrition Program does not meet current and future needs.

H.109 is a step forward in reducing this funding gap, increasing the investment for the Older Vermonters Nutrition Program to create a sustainable and cost-effective plan for the future. Sponsored by Rep. Daniel Noyes, this bill has garnered an additional 37 sponsors and the support of area agencies on aging across the state.

Join us in support of this effort to increase meal reimbursement rates for home-delivered meals for older adults by contacting your legislative representatives and encouraging them to support this important bill. Click here to search legislatures by name or town, or call the Sargent at Arms at (802) 828-2228 and leave a brief message, "I am your constituent calling to ask you to support H.109" with your call back number.

Last year, CVCOA's 13 meal programs served 217,497 meals to 1,794 clients throughout Central Vermont. In collaboration with these 13 meal programs, we continue to ensure that quality and nutritious meals are available to low-income and homebound older adults. This is a community effort that relies on staff, volunteers, partners, and support from community members like you. Thank you for supporting older Vermonters!
