Central Vermont Council on Aging (CVCOA) Welcomes New SHIP Coordinator, Linda Schindler

Barre, VT (January 5, 2023): Central Vermont Council on Aging (CVCOA) is pleased to welcome Linda Schindler as our new State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) Coordinator.

Linda joined the CVCOA staff on December 19th, 2022, after 4 years of retirement from a career in health access and counseling. Linda comes to CVCOA with 25 years of experience in healthcare and served as the Access Eligibility Supervisor for the Vermont Department of Health from 2007-2018. After a period of rest and rejuvenation, Linda is excited to return to meaningful work, utilizing her experience in health care to serve older adults.

Led by the SHIP Coordinator, CVCOA provides information, counseling, and assistance to all Medicare-eligible persons under the auspices of the State Health Insurance Program or “SHIP.”  CVCOA staff addresses questions about Medicare, private insurance plans, supplemental insurance plans, and Vermont State insurance programs. We offer monthly “Medicare & You” workshops to the public on Zoom.

CVCOA offers appointments during open enrollment and guides hundreds of people each year through the online open enrollment process. During the fiscal year 2022 open enrollment period, CVCOA’s case managers, options counselors, and volunteers provided appointments to 499 individuals. As our new SHIP Coordinator, Linda will lead this effort and provide outreach, education, and counseling to Medicare beneficiaries.
